The Compound CLI lets Claude Code, Codex or your own agent hand finance work to Compound and get back professional-grade Excel models, PowerPoint decks and Word memos, with every figure cited to its source.
Set it up
Tell your agent to install it
Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw or your agent. It reads the install steps in the repository and sets up the CLI and its skill. In Claude Code, it asks you to type two /plugin commands and restart Claude Code, because plugins install only through commands you type.
Install the Compound CLI by following https://github.com/GetCompoundAI/compound-skillIn OpenClaw, you can also install the skill yourself:
openclaw skills install git:getcompoundai/compound-skillSign in
Your agent runs compound login. Open the sign-in link it gives you, sign in, and paste the code back to your agent. You sign in once; the CLI stays signed in across sessions.
Ask in plain English
Mention Compound in your request:
- “Use Compound to build a comps sheet for the five largest US semiconductor companies.”
- “Use Compound to turn NVDA’s latest earnings call into a five-slide deck.”
- “Upload the data room in ./project-falcon to Compound and ask it for a diligence memo.”
Compound already has SEC filings, financials, earnings call transcripts and market data, so there’s nothing to upload for public companies. The work and its files also show up in the agent’s conversation at getcompound.ai.
The Compound CLI runs on macOS and Linux. On Windows, set up WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) first and run everything inside your WSL shell.
Keep work separate
To keep a deal or client separate, ask your agent to put the work in a Compound project, for example “Use a Compound project called Project Falcon for this.” Projects created from the CLI appear in the app like any other.
Updates
The CLI updates itself when an agent runs it, and Claude Code’s plugin updates it on every start. To update now, run compound update.
Troubleshooting
compound: command not found: restart your shell, or runsource ~/.zshrc(or~/.bashrc) so the install folder is on your PATH. In Claude Code, restart Claude Code after installing the plugin.- Your agent can’t see a file you uploaded in the app: check that both are using the same agent. Files you upload in the app go to the agent you had open. The CLI uses Frankie unless your agent names another agent.
